Hunting For Local Food?

Thank You Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP) for the:

According to ASAP, The Local Food Guide, now in it's seventh year, "...was created in 2002 in response to the people of our region, who told us they want to buy more food from local farms but often don't know where to find it."

When ASAP put this guide together, they went well beyond "telling us where to find it". They've included all kinds of information in this eighty four page publication from u-pick farm locations to a seasonal produce chart - showing availability of local produce by month, to listing restaurants who have committed to using as much local farm-sourced ingredients as possible to a Regional Farm Event Calendar.

How do you know if you've found local food?

This Appalachian Grown symbol means the farm product it's on was grown or raised in western North Carolina and the southern Appalachian Mountains. By buying these products you are supporting family farms, strengthening the local economy and helping protect the natural beauty of the Appalachian mountains (from The Local Food Guide).

Pick up a copy of this guide or look at the searchable Local Food Guide database on
ASAP's website and your hunt will be much easier. The hard copies are FREE at many locations around WNC. My copy came from Black Bear Coffee Co in Hendersonville.
